Five tree services across Pretoria

We connect homeowners, body corporates and businesses across the City of Tshwane with independent contractors for the services below. Each has its own page that explains what the work involves, the signs that you need it, how a contractor usually goes about it and what moves the quote. Where there is a local page for your suburb, it is linked under the service.

Not sure which you need? Describe the tree and the problem on the contact form and choose "Something else". We will work out which kind of contractor to pass it to.

Tree felling

A tree that is too big, too close to the house or already leaning is not a weekend job with a borrowed chainsaw. Tree felling in Pretoria is work for a contractor who climbs, rigs and lowers the tree down in sections. This website connects you with a contractor who covers your suburb.

Tree removal

Tree removal is the whole job, not just the cut: taking the tree down, clearing the branches and logs, and leaving the ground fit to use again. This website connects Pretoria homeowners and property managers with independent contractors who do that work.

Local pages: Waterkloof, Faerie Glen, Eldoraigne, Wierdapark

Stump grinding

A stump left in the ground is a trip hazard, a mowing problem and, in some species, a source of new shoots for years. Stump grinding takes it down below the surface so the ground can be levelled and planted again. This website connects you with a contractor who does the work.

Emergency tree removal

After a Highveld storm, a tree can come down on a wall, a roof, a driveway or a power line. An emergency removal is about making the property safe first and clearing the tree second. This website connects you with a contractor who does that work.

Tree pruning and palm trimming

Pruning is the maintenance side of tree work: taking out dead wood, thinning a heavy crown, lifting low branches and cleaning up palms. It is a smaller and steadier job than a removal, and it is often what keeps a tree from becoming a problem.

Removal and pruning are different jobs

Felling, removal and stump grinding are about taking a tree out. Pruning and palm trimming is maintenance: dead wood out, a crown thinned, fronds cleaned up. It is a smaller and steadier job, and we keep it as its own clearly labelled service so that it is clear what you are asking for. If a tree is dead or dangerous, pruning is not the answer.

Stump grinding is separate again. Once a tree is down, the stump stays in the ground unless it is ground out, which is a different machine and a different job. See stump grinding and our guide to grinding versus full removal.

Working near houses, walls and lines

Most Pretoria trees do not stand in open ground. They stand over a roof, a carport, a pool, a driveway or a boundary wall, which is why a removal is usually worked out in sections and lowered with rigging rather than dropped. The same care applies to overhead lines: a contractor cannot work on a live line, and the utility has to make it safe first.

What we do not do

We do not fell, remove, grind or prune trees, set contractors' prices or warrant their work. We do not publish prices, ratings or credentials that nobody has confirmed. The contractor quotes you directly and is responsible for the work. Read how Tree Felling Pretoria works, and our guide to what drives the cost of tree removal in Pretoria.

Tell us about your tree

Send your suburb and what you need: a tree felled, a stump ground, a fallen tree cleared, or a regular prune. We pass it to a contractor who covers your area, and the contractor quotes you directly.
